Surreal beautiful scenery like ‘another world’ in a new cave in Vietnam.TranYen

Surrounded by a system of limestone mountains millions of years old, many wild, majestic caves with surreal beauty located deep in the strictly protected area of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park are vividly recreated through the lens of foreign reporters.

Recounting his exploration experience in Quang Binh published in The Epoch Times, reporter Michael Wing began by stating: “An unobservant explorer could easily miss the hidden treasures in the remote mountainous jungles of Central Vietnam. However, if you pay attention, just a few meters below the eternal limestone cliffs, there are wonders beyond all imagination.”

Although Son Doong is the most famous cave in Quang Binh, the Canadian writer was particularly attracted to another “hidden gem” deep in the primeval forest of Phong Nha – Ke Bang, near the Lao border.

This is one of the most magnificent underground caves discovered by local foresters since 1993. That is Hung Thoong cave.

Recently, many tourists have begun to experience the first exploration trips to admire the surreal and magnificent beauty in the cave.

Hung Thoong is the only cave system in the area with such a beautiful shape. It is a combination of rock shapes and cave lakes.

The reporters spent three days exploring the cave. The exploration team was equipped with specialized boots to help them traverse the wet jungle when entering the cave. After just over an hour of walking, visitors were able to admire the first magical scene, which was the “Nightmare” sinkhole.

Sinkholes are created by the subsidence of the surface soil and rock when the soil underneath is gradually hollowed out to the point where it is no longer connected enough to support the soil and rock above, creating a crack shaped like a “skylight” inside the ground. The depth of the hole is up to nearly 260 meters, which is why the hole is called “Nightmare”. Even up to now, tourists have not been allowed to visit and experience this sinkhole.

Continuing the journey through the forest, visitors will come to the cool Hung Thoong Lake. This is a great place to rest before reaching Hung Cave, the most magnificent place in Hung Thoong.

But Hung Cave is not easy to access. Not only is the path slippery, but visitors also have to swim about 1.2km through another cave, Hang Tron, before reaching Hung Cave. As you approach the cave, the path gradually narrows in height, with the ceiling only slightly higher than your head. This terrain can make many claustrophobic people nervous. Some sections of the path are so narrow that visitors have to crawl up to 12 metres.

Finally, the cave door opens, leading visitors into a space decorated by Mother Nature with a series of artifacts, like “stepping into another world”.

Many magical stalactite and stalagmite structures grow from below like stone pillars, and from above like curtains, the reporter described.

On the second day, visitors will continue their journey to Suoi Mooc before reaching the next wonder, Thung Cave. This is the most difficult cave to access. Visitors have to cross a very slippery and dangerous area of boulders, swim about 43 meters, then climb a large cliff with a safety rope.

But all this effort will be rewarded with another magnificent sight. Inside the cave is a lake with impressive cuts, natural mineral deposits creating a magical blue-green color. Visitors can row a boat to visit here. “This is a unique sight,” the reporter described.

Next, visitors will trek through the forest to camp at Ma Da Lake, where the crystal clear water soothes all fatigue.

On the third day, which is also the last day of the journey, visitors will cross the Ma Da valley before reaching the Ho Chi Minh road and returning to Phong Nha.

Just a few years ago, tourists were banned from accessing these rugged mountainous areas, let alone exploring the interior. However, recently, the Quang Binh government has begun to promote similar forms of adventure tourism. In the initial stages, the number of visitors accepted is quite limited.

More than 400 caves like this have been discovered in the mountains of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. They provide a means of exploiting tourism for the local people, instead of illegal jobs such as illegal hunting of wild animals in the past.

However, besides the surreal natural beauty, the affection and hospitality of the people here are what lingers in tourists’ minds after each trip, the author concluded.
