Reagan’s remarkable survival has defied doctors’ predictions, as she and her twin sister Mila continue to thrive at six months old. Born prematurely at just one pound, Reagan was three times smaller than her sister, but her fighting spirit ensured her survival.
Despite facing challenges such as sepsis, Reagan has overcome the odds. Mila, weighing two pounds and thirteen ounces, spent 45 days in the neonatal intensive care unit before being discharged.
The medical team at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh closely monitored Reagan’s growth during the pregnancy. Concerns arose when she stopped growing at 20 weeks. Finally, after 118 days, Reagan was able to join Mila at home in Washington, Pennsylvania. Although the twins are developing at different rates, they are progressing normally.
Audrieanna, their mother, expressed her amazement at the vast size difference between the twins. Reagan’s smaller stature defied expectations, but both girls are miracles in their own right. Audrieanna and her spouse Chase had struggled with infertility for years before undergoing IVF and discovering they were expecting twins.
Throughout the pregnancy, there were concerns about Reagan’s survival due to her size. At 24 weeks, there were complications with her umbilical cord affecting nutrient and 𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅 flow. However, Reagan’s heartbeat continued to beat at 26 weeks, giving hope to her parents.
Audrieanna remained determined to support Reagan in every possible way, and she was admitted to the hospital for observation at 27 weeks. Finally, at 29 weeks, an emergency C-section was performed, bringing Mila and Reagan into the world. Mila weighed 2.13 pounds, while Reagan was a mere 1 pound.
Reagan faced additional challenges, including peritonitis, and was transferred to UPMC Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, Mila made a full recovery and was able to go home in January 2022.
Audrieanna reflects on the early days when Reagan was so tiny she could fit in the palm of a hand. Despite the ups and downs, the Lambert family is grateful for the miracles of their twin daughters and the incredible journey they have experienced. Reagan’s resilience and determination continue to inspire all those who hear her story.
